Cherry picking: questions and answers

When is cherry picking season?

Sweet cherries ripen in June in most of the country and in July in the North and the mountains. Tart cherries follow a week or two later. The season at one orchard often lasts only two to four weeks.

How do you pick cherries?

Pick cherries with the stem on: hold the stem and twist it off the spur. Cherries without stems spoil faster. Don't pull off the spur, since it carries next year's fruit.
