When is peach picking season?
Peach season runs from late spring in Florida and Georgia to September in the North. Most U-pick orchards have peaches for about two months. We list 532 farms for peaches in 44 states. The states with the most: New York (32), Connecticut (31), Massachusetts (29), Michigan (29), Virginia (28).
Typical season by region
- Florida and Hawaii: April to June
- Deep South and Southwest (TX, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, AZ): May to August
- Upper South (NC, TN, VA, AR, OK, KY, NM): June to August
- California and Nevada: June to September
- Mid-Atlantic and Midwest (PA, NJ, MD, OH, IN, IL, MO and neighbors): July to September
- Pacific Northwest (OR, WA, ID): July to September
- Northeast and Upper Midwest (NY, New England, MI, WI, MN and neighbors): August to September
- Mountain West (CO, UT, MT, WY): August to September
These are rough windows. A warm spring can move the start up by a week or two, a late frost or a cool summer can push it back. Season notes on our farm pages are what the farm posted, sometimes for an earlier year.

Tips for picking peaches
- Look at the background color, not the red blush. A ripe peach is yellow or cream under the red, with no green.
- Ripe peaches give slightly near the stem. Pick them by cupping the fruit and lifting, rather than pulling.
- Peaches bruise easily. Use a flat container and do not stack them more than two layers deep.
