When is strawberry picking season?
Strawberries are the first U-pick crop of the year, and when they are ripe depends mostly on how far south you live. We list 1234 farms with pick-your-own strawberries. The states with the most:
- North Carolina: 112 farms
- New York: 95 farms
- Pennsylvania: 65 farms
- Wisconsin: 56 farms
- Michigan: 52 farms
- Virginia: 49 farms
- Ohio: 47 farms
- Georgia: 46 farms
Typical season by region
- Florida and South Texas: December or January to March or April.
- Gulf Coast and Deep South (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia): March to May.
- Carolinas, Tennessee, Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma: mid-April to late May.
- Mid-Atlantic and lower Midwest (Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri): mid-May to mid-June.
- New England, New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota: June to early July.
- California: long season, roughly March to fall along the coast.
- Oregon and Washington: June to early July, with some day-neutral berries into the fall.
These are rough windows. A warm spring can move the start up by two weeks, a late frost can push it back. Season notes on farm pages are what the farm or a listing posted, sometimes for an earlier year.
Before you go
